The Redevelopment commission also gives the green light to a new development project in downtown. They’re selling the former Rink Riverside Printing site to a local developer.

The developer, Dave Matthews, plans to build ten town homes along the east bank. The big selling point for city leaders is the price point. Each unit will start at $ 170,000 and will range in size from 1,7000 to 3,500 square feet.

Matthews say these affordable and green town house are part of a growing trend among young professionals. He says it’s something that’s lacking in Michiana.

“We grew up watching Sex and the City and Friends, these television shows that we watched every week for years were set in urban environments. You live in big cities and you live close to each other,” says Matthews.

There will be eight condos built along the river and two more will be built on the back lot.

The entire project has a three-year timetable for development.

Several families have already expressed interest in the project. If you would like more information on his plans, they will have a Web site up on March 1st.
